Researchers

Dr. Raghothama Chaerkady obtained his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry from Manipal Academy of Higher Education, (A Deemed University) Manipal, India. He was an Associate Professor of Biotechnology at Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, India. He is using his expertise in mass spectrometry and discovery proteomics to study biomarker and signaling molecules.

Dr. Sujatha Mohan obtained her M.Sc. degree in Botany from Madras University, Chennai. She had completed M.Phil. from the same University with specialization in Algology. Later, she did her Ph.D. from CAS in Botany, Madras University in environmental science. She is applying her knowledge to database analysis, signaling pathway annotation, functional genomics and microarray gene expression. She is a recognized Ph.D Guide at Kuvempu University. She is currently at RIKEN Research Center for Allergy and Immunology, Yokohama Institute, Japan as the leader of Immunoinformatics Research Unit. She is involved in developing a database for Primary Immunodeficiency Disease (PID) from Asia.

Dr. Anuradha Nalli has a Ph.D. in Human Cytogenetics on the topic "Cytogenetics causes of recurrent spontaneous abortions" from Andhra University. She has a M.Sc. degree in Human Genetics. She is now applying her knowledge in the fields of Genomics and signal transduction. She is using microarray technology to obtain gene expression profile of esophageal carcinoma for discovering novel biomarkers. She is also studying copy number variations in cancers using array CGH.

Dr. Keshava Prasad obtained his M.Sc. degree in Biosciences from Mangalore University, India and a Ph.D. in Botany (Studies on diversity, ecology and activity of microfungi in relation to mosquito developmental stages) from Goa University, India. He is involved in curation and review of proteomics data in Human Protein Reference Database and Plasma Proteome Database. He is also participating in the analysis of protein tyrosine phosphatases in the human genome using comparative genomics and EST analysis.

Dr. Subhashri Ramabadran obtained her Ph.D. degree in Molecular Virology from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. She completed her M.Sc. in Biotechnology from Madurai Kamaraj University. Her project at IOB involves purification of candidate biomarkers for pancreatic and esophageal cancers for generation of monoclonal antibodies to assist in their validation.

Dr. Prathibha Ranganathan obtained her Ph.D. from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore where she studied the effects of TGF beta in lung cancer using cell lines and in a mouse xenografts. She used DNA microarrays to identify novel targets of TGF beta. Before joining IOB, she was a Lecturer in the Department of Biochemistry at Manipal University.

Dr. Renu Goel was most recently a Faculty of Bioinformatics at S.S. Group of Educational Institutions. She also has an M.Tech Degree in Biotechnology from Institute of Advanced Studies in Education in Rajasthan, an M.Sc. Degree in Bioinformatics from Sikkim Manipal University and an Advanced Diploma in Bioinformatics from Software Technology Group, Bangalore. At IOB, she is applying her expertise to databases and signal transduction pathways.

Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed obtained his M.Sc. degree in Zoology, M.Phil and Ph.D in Reproductive Biology from Karnatak University, India. He is applying his knowledge to enhance data mining and updating protein repository. He is also elucidating the functions of novel genes of X-chromosome including Bex family of proteins through a variety of functional approaches.

Danny Navarro obtained his M.Sc. degree in Biochemistry from the University of Navarra, Spain. He worked with Dr. Matthias Mann at the University of Odense in Denmark from 2001-2002. From 2002-2004, he worked in the laboratory of Dr. Akhilesh Pandey at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, USA. He was instrumental in the development of the Human Protein Reference Database in collaboration with the Institute of Bioinformatics. He is currently at IOB where he is focusing on integrating microarray and proteomic data with protein interaction networks.

Shreeharsha Gowda obtained his M.Sc. degree in Biotechnology from University Of Mysore. He is a joint research student between Institute of Bioinformatics and Johns Hopkins University. His research is based on proteomic approaches to study signaling pathways that are activated in pancreatic cancer and identification of novel biomarkers.

Shivakumar Keerthikumar Shivakumar Keerthikumar obtained his Advanced Diploma in Bioinformatics after completing his M.Sc. degree in Biochemistry from Kuvempu University, India. He is involved in microarray database creation and maintenance, and mining gene expression data. He is a Ph.D student at the Institute of Bioinformatics. He is currently involved in col laboratory research project on Primary Immunodeficiency (PID) for the identification of candidate PID genes in Immunoinformatics research lab at RIKEN, JAPAN..

Manoj Kashyap obtained his M.Sc. degree in Biotechnology from Institute of Advanced Studies (CCSU), Meerut. He has gained experience in Molecular Biology at PGIMER, Chandigarh. He spent three and half years as a visiting scholar at Loyola University of Chicago and University of Illinois, Urbana; U.S.A. He is applying his training to the characterization of protein interactions in specific signaling cascades. He is currenty a Ph.D student at the Institute of Bioinformatics. He is using microarray technology to study the gene expression profiling of esophageal carcinoma.

Abhilash K Venugopal obtained his M.Sc. degree in Microbiology from Madhurai Kamaraj University. He has research experience in Immunology of Cervical Cancer in analyzing Expression profile of Toll-like Receptor pathway at Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology, Bangalore. He has developed Reverse Line Blot assay system for the detection of HPV genotypes. He is currently involved in protein annotation and signal transduction pathways. Subsequently, she worked as a Junior Research Fellow at the Indian Institute of Science before joining IOB. Mitali Bhattacharjee obtained her M.Sc. degree in Biochemistry from North Eastern Hill University in Shillong and a Post Graduate Diploma in Cheminformatics from the Institute of Cheminformatics Studies in Delhi. Subsequently, she qualified for a Lectureship sponsored by the CSIR-UGC. She has undertaken courses in Oracle and C programming. Before joining IOB, she was a Lecturer in the Department of Bioinformatics at Sikkim Manipal University in Shillong.
